Nabire, Central Papua — The Provincial Government of Central Papua, through the Department of Education, distributed hundreds of laptops to secondary school students on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. This initiative is part of efforts to accelerate the digital transformation in the education sector.

The handover ceremony was led by the Governor of Central Papua, Meki Nawipa, at the Governor's Office, accompanied by the Vice Governor, the Acting Secretary of the Region, the Acting Head of the Provincial Department of Education, and the Head of the Education Department of the District.

In his speech, the Governor emphasized that access to technology has now become a basic need in the teaching and learning process in the modern era. He also expressed appreciation for the Department of Education for swiftly realizing the program.

“My appreciation to the Department of Education for quickly realizing this program. As I promised last September, laptops would be distributed to students, and today it has come true,” said Meki Nawipa.

According to him, the laptop distribution is not only being carried out in Nabire but will also reach several districts in Central Papua. The assistance is also planned to continue for other educational levels.

“We have already distributed laptops for high schools and vocational schools. Next, we will also distribute 200 laptops for elementary schools. I hope these laptops can help with school tasks and contribute to the future,” he added.

The Provincial Government of Central Papua hopes that this provision of devices will improve the quality of learning, expand digital literacy access for students, and support human resource readiness to face the demands of technology-based education.
