As part of efforts to improve the quality of human resources in Central Papua Province, the Papua Black Pearl Foundation (YMHP) is collaborating with the Central Papua Provincial Education Office to organize English language training for students at SMK Negeri 1 Pariwisata Paniai and SMP YPPGKI Paniai. The training program will begin with a Placement Test to be held on November 21 and 22, 2025, in Paniai Regency.
The Placement Test aims to measure the English proficiency level of participants before they attend the training. With this test, participants will be placed in classes according to their proficiency level, ranging from beginner to advanced. This is expected to maximize the effectiveness of the training and ensure that each participant receives material that is appropriate for their abilities.
The Placement Test will be conducted directly at two locations, namely SMK Negeri 1 Pariwisata Paniai and SMP YPPGKI Paniai. Participants will take a series of tests covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
After the Placement Test is completed, English training will begin the following week with material that has been adjusted based on the test results. This training program will last for 3 weeks, with the aim of improving the English language skills of the people in Paniai Regency, which is expected to open up more opportunities in education and employment.
According to Mrs. Mina V Sarwom, Chairwoman of the Mutiara Hitam Papua Foundation, this activity is a tangible contribution from the government in providing attention to students, especially those from indigenous Papuan tribes. “We sincerely hope that after this program is completed, every Papuan child who participates in this training will receive an English training certificate, which can be a valuable asset in opening up wider opportunities in the world of education and the job market,” said Mrs. Mina.
With this placement test, it is hoped that participants will be able to more easily follow the learning process and reap the maximum benefits from the English training program. This program is also part of the Central Papua Provincial Government's commitment to improving the quality of education and skills in the region, while preparing the community to face global challenges.
This training is an important first step in creating a younger generation that is better prepared to compete in the global job market and make a positive contribution to the economic development of Central Papua.
